God’s Help with a Capital ‘H’!
God's help is nearer than the door.Irish proverb
Sometimes I wonder why I so quickly want to solve a problem myself, instead of turning and asking for help from God. :S It seems that for me, God tends to be a means of last resort. In my last post, I mentioned Chinese wisdom in putting time and effort into educating people. In this article, I want to mention 3 pointers on why we should call on God as a first resort, based on this Irish proverb:
- Our relationship improves when we put God first. This shows God that we trust Him to be able and willing to solve our problems. Our trust in God improves also when we see Him help us through our problems.
- It is simply less tiring. Yes, running around like a headless chicken trying to solve our own problems may seem fun at first, but in reality, is really tiring. Seeking God first will help calm us down and hopefully help us to see things a little more rationally.
- God delights in helping us. I believe that God is happy when we turn to him, trusting that He will take care of us. Isn't that why he sent his only begotten son to earth to save us?
Matthew 11:28-30
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Matthew 7:11
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
